Facebook today announced the launch of its Facebook Pay service, which will be used on various applications owned by the company.

Facebook said in a blog post : “Today we offer Facebook Pay, which will provide people with a convenient, secure and consistent payment experience across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp. When it comes to payments, security and privacy are critical. That’s why we take additional steps to protect your payment information.”

Facebook explained that users can set up a service (Facebook Pay) for each application individually, or choose to set it up for use across different applications. This means that the user will not automatically have to set up the service on the apps they are active on, unless they choose to.

The user can choose to add a PIN, or use the phone’s biometric systems, such as a fingerprint or fingerprint, if available, to add an extra layer of protection when sending money or making payments. Facebook confirmed that it will not receive or save any biometric information belonging to users.

“As with previous payment options on our apps, when making payments with Facebook, we will collect information about your purchase, such as payment method, transaction history, billing, shipping and contact details,” Facebook said.

Users will be able to add or remove payment methods, view transactions and start customer support directly from Facebook. If the user chooses to set up the service across applications, they will be able to view the payment history across all applications in one place.

Facebook said the launch of the new Facebook Pay service will begin this week for Facebook and Messenger users in the United States to collect donations, in-game purchases and events, as well as the possibility to transfer money from one person to another on Messenger, and purchase from selected pages and companies in Facebook Store. The company later plans to launch the service to other countries and its other applications, such as Instagram and WhatsApp.
