The San Francisco-based Framework Corporation announced its first product, the Standard Laptop. The computer features many modular parts that are replaceable and upgradeable, which are designed to allow the user to continue using the device permanently.

The Framework laptop also features an aluminum frame with a thickness of 15.8 millimeters and a weight of 1.3 kilograms.

The device has a 13.5-inch screen with a resolution of 2256 x 1504 pixels with a 3: 2 aspect ratio and a brightness of up to 400 nits, a 1080p webcam, a 55-watt battery and a keyboard.

It is powered by Intel’s 11th Generation Core i5-1135G7, Core i7-1165G7, or Core i7-1185G7 Tiger Lake processors with Intel Xe graphics, DDR4 RAM of 64GB, and 4 TB or more of storage. Gen4 NVMe.

The Framework laptop is not limited to the CPU and GPU you get at launch, as the mainboard that houses the processor is upgradeable, so it can be replaced with a newer, faster processor when it becomes available in the future.

The laptop also contains the Framework card system expansion, which allows the user to switch the ports on the side of the device.

You can choose from USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, microSD, 250GB or 1TB fast expansion cards, or a headphone amplifier. You can switch it as you wish and place it on either side of the laptop.

Other things you can change include keyboard language and layout, magnetically attached screen frame color, internal storage, RAM, and wireless network card.

Parts such as the screen, battery, and keyboard are facilitated by QR printing so you can search for and find replacement parts.

Framework also allows others to create and sell compatible laptop units through the company’s store. The Framework laptop is available primarily on Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Home.

You can optionally choose to have it as part of the Framework Laptop DIY Edition, as it is available as a set of modules that you must customize and build yourself with your choice of operating system.

The company said: The date of shipment will be in the summer of 2021, provided that other details, such as: specifications, prices and timing of the initial order, will be issued in the next few weeks.
