A new report indicates that Apple plans to drop its support for iPhone SE, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus phones with the iOS 15 update next year. This comes after Apple maintained compatibility with all these devices this year with iOS 14.

The report comes from theverifier, which has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple rumors, as the site previously reported that iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 will not get updates after iOS 12.

It also reported that iOS 14 supports all the same iPhones as iOS 13. This means that iOS 15 works on the following iPhones:

  • iPhone 2021
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation).
  • iPod touch (7th generation).
  • Apple introduced the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in September 2015, while the iPhone SE was introduced in March 2016, and the devices were very popular, and it received more than four years of software updates from Apple.

And with iPhone 12 mini and the second generation of iPhone SE, Apple is now selling two modern devices that match the design of the iPhone 6s, as the second generation iPhone SE is almost identical to the iPhone 6s in terms of design, but with the modern A13 processor inside.

The iPhone 12 mini is actually smaller, but it offers a larger screen, given its edge-to-edge design, along with the A14 processor and improved camera system. Apple is often praised for its software update, especially for iOS and iPadOS.

And compared to Android, even with new commitments of three years from some manufacturers, Apple often releases new iOS versions even for models older than three years.

Apple’s decision on hardware support is usually down to the processor, as the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus and the first generation iPhone SE use the A9 processor. And it looks like iOS 15 might finally bring the curtain down on the five-year-old iPhones.
