While a recent business intelligence review of IndustryARC, a research and consulting company, presents Bitdefender, Kaspersky and Norton as the main players in the antivirus market, Windows Defender is now one of the leading anti-virus products in the world. According to a study conducted by security researchers at the German AV-TEST Institute.
In May and June of this year, the independent AV-TEST IT Security Institute evaluated 20 security products for individual users using their default settings to determine which one offered the best protection. Only four of these products got the highest score, and one of them was Windows Defender. The other three were F-Secure SAFE 17, Kaspersky Internet Security 19.0 and Norton Security 22.17.
Microsoft is probably not known for its ability to convince with advanced security solutions to block malware and cyber attacks, but thanks to the efforts that the company recently deployed for Windows Defender, the antivirus built into Windows 10 would have takes a big step forward.
In addition, the latest antivirus testing by AV-TEST indicates that Windows Defender now offers performance similar to that of leading security vendors such as Kaspersky and Symantec. Of the other products evaluated, Webroot SecureAnywhere 9.0 came last. Avast Free AntiVirus 19.5, AVG Internet Security 19.5, Bitdefender Internet Security 23.0, Trend Micro Internet Security 15.0 and VIPRE AdvancedSecurity 11.0 are some of the most powerful solutions.
