Amazon has been accused of spying on children and violating their privacy with smart speakers. The company has been heavily criticized for hiring people to listen to Echo’s sound recordings to help train artificial intelligence for its vocal assistant Alexa.
The retail giant claimed the device was safe for the family, contrary to the “For a Child without Trade” campaign, as the most troubling claim was that Amazon kept children’s data even after parents thought they had deleted it.
The investigation revealed that Echo Dot Kids violated the Children’s Privacy Protection Act in several ways. “Parents must be responsible for children’s data, and the Federal Trade Commission must charge Amazon for its flagrant violation of the Children’s Privacy Act and endanger them,” CCFC said.
