LG said today, Thursday: It is providing up to three versions of Android OS updates for its smartphones, to allay consumer concerns that arose from the company shutting down its mobile business unit.
The company previously provided two generations of OS updates for premium smartphones and one for budget models, but that has since been extended to three and two, respectively.
And the extended operating system update period applies to smartphones launched since 2019, which include premium smartphone groups, as well as budget brands.
This includes the G series (G8X and G8S), V series (V60 and V50), LG Velvet and LG Wing, along with Stylo 6 and K series (K92 5G, K62, K62, K42 and K22).
The company said: The premium smartphones, LG Velvet and LG Wing, which were launched in 2020, will get OS updates until 2023.
However, the exact schedule depends on the operating system deployment schedule from Google and other factors, such as device performance and compatibility, LG said.
According to the South Korean electronics maker, the extension was made so that the company could show its gratitude to its customers and allow consumers to use their LG devices without worry.
The company also continues to provide after-sales services to clients worldwide, in accordance with local laws and guidelines.
In South Korea, the company provides after-sales services for a period of no less than four years after the date of manufacturing. “Consumers can still access more than 120 LG service centers in the country for repairs,” the company said.
Customers also have continuous access to LG Pay for up to three years after the company completes its exit.
Earlier this week, the company announced that it was closing its mobile business unit at the end of July, and the company said: It is manufacturing phones through the end of May to fulfill contractual obligations with telecom companies and partners.
