The agreement with the governor of California and other partners is expected to result in the construction of 20,000 new homes for teachers, nurses and other essential workers. Facebook will spend one billion dollars during the next decade to build social housing, mainly in California, where is its headquarters, said Tuesday the giant of social networks.

 

“The California government can not solve the problem of affordable housing alone, we need other companies to respond like Facebook, we need partnerships with the private sector and charities to reverse the current situation and face to the cost crisis, “Gavin Newsom said in a statement.

 

Facebook has already worked with local groups and authorities on the thorny issue of affordable housing in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley, where the group is headquartered (Menlo Park).

 

The budget allocated by Facebook will be divided between the construction of housing on land owned by the State of California (250 million), building space in Menlo Park already purchased by the company (225 million) and social housing projects in other places in the country (350 million).
