Apple announced today, Tuesday, during its official event for the M1, which it said: It is the most powerful chip it has ever made, and the first chip designed specifically for Mac devices.

The US technology giant said: The M1 chip is optimized for Mac systems in a way that makes compact size and energy efficiency extremely important. As a system-on-chip (SoC), the M1 combines many powerful technologies in one chip, and features a unified memory architecture to dramatically improve performance and efficiency.

Apple added that the M1 is the first personal computer chip built using an advanced 5-nanometer processing technology that contains 16 billion transistors. It features the world’s fastest CPU core from low-power silicon, the world’s best CPU performance per watt, the world’s fastest integrated graphics processing in a personal computer, and amazing machine learning performance with the Apple Neural Engine.

As a result, the M1 delivers up to 3.5 times faster CPU performance, up to 6 times faster GPU performance, and 15 times faster machine learning, all while making battery life up to 2X longer than previous-generation Macs thanks to the increase Deep in performance and efficiency, so, the M1 makes the biggest leap ever for Macs.

Apple explained that the M1 features an 8-core CPU that consists of four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. Each high-performance core provides industry-leading performance for tasks, while operating as efficiently as possible. It is the world’s fastest CPU cores from low-power silicon, allowing photographers – according to Apple – to edit high-resolution images at lightning speed, and for developers creating applications nearly three times faster than before.

Apple said: The four cores – highly efficient – provide outstanding performance one-tenth of the power. By themselves, these four cores provide similar performance to the current generation MacBook Air with much lower power.

Programmatically, the company said: The macOS Big Sur system was designed to take full advantage of all the capabilities and power of the M1, providing massive performance boost, amazing battery life, and stronger security protection.
