Google Home app now includes shameless advertisements for Sling TV
Google is primarily an advertising company, so it may come as no surprise that somewhat intrusive ads have begun to infiltrate some of the company’s services. From Google Assistant to Discover Feed, the basic Android experience feels as commercial as ever, and now the Google Home app is next to receiving unwanted ads.
The Google Home application now displays the “Watch Live TV” shortcut under any video-capable devices, which opens a prompt to connect your Sling TV account to Google. The page reads “Create an account to open more than 30 other channels for 3 days. No credit card required.”
The Google Home app isn’t really the company’s best mobile app, especially as it tries to replicate features from the soon-to-be discontinued Nest Aware app, and rolling out ads definitely doesn’t help. Google still has ways to go until it can match shameful Samsung ads in the core system apps, but the company is starting to get there.
