New FCC filings Confirms Galaxy Fold3 Will Support Samsung S Pen Pro
We’ve been eagerly awaiting the next generation of foldable phones from Samsung for some time now, but it looks like we can finally make an announcement. After two recent FCC filings revealed the existence of the Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 approaching a launch, a third report gives us new insight into the latter’s stylus support.
Thanks to these documents (via XDA-Developers), we now know that the Galaxy Z Fold3 will include S Pen capabilities. Carrying the model number SM-F926U, FCC documents confirm that the scanner required for the S Pen to function properly is built into the device. The Galaxy Fold Z2 used model number SM-F916, so it’s almost certain that it’s its successor. In addition to its new stylus functionality, expect the Z Fold3 to come with 5G (and all of its various bands, including UWB and mmWave), NFC, wireless charging, and Wi-Fi 6th.
We’ll have to wait and see how Samsung plans to shield the Fold’s screen with a stylus, as the company’s previous folding devices were more prone to scratches than a standard Gorilla Glass panel. Hopefully, Samsung has a few tricks up its sleeve to prevent your expensive futuristic gadget.
The Galaxy Z Flip3 also passed certification, with model number SM-F711U. Sadly, it seems to be missing some of its big brother’s premium features, including S Pen and UWB support, but it’s good to know that another clamshell device is on the way.
Rumor has it that the two devices have been launching in August for several months now, taking the place of the Galaxy Note when it is presumably taking a well-deserved vacation. With the Z Fold3 supporting the S Pen, Note fans always have something to look forward to as summer progresses.
S Pen Pro support confirmed
As we get closer to the official reveal of the Z Fold3 – which could take place as early as August 11, if recent leaks are to be believed – we’re getting a whole new round of confirmations thanks to additional filings from the FCC. This time around, it’s for the S Pen Pro, Samsung’s next stylus that we haven’t heard much about since it was announced in January. It looks like he could make an appearance in the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked, alongside this year’s foldable roster.
The label that will appear on the S Pen Pro’s box is included in this folder, and it specifically highlights the “Galaxy Z Fold3 5G” as a compatible phone. Not only does this report confirm the name – remember, reports spotted in June only used model numbers – but also long-standing support for the S Pen.
The S Pen Pro may be a completely optional accessory for the Z Fold3, although Samsung may include one in the box for its more high-end device. Likewise, there is always the possibility that its pro-level stylus will require an additional purchase, but a less advanced model is provided by default. We’ll have to wait and see what the company plans for its next-gen foldable phone, although it shouldn’t be much longer.
