Spotify users are becoming impatient with the music streaming giant due to its lack of HomePod support, prompting many customers to cancel subscriptions entirely and switch to alternative platforms, such as Apple Music.
More than a year ago, at the 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that it was adding support for a third-party music service to the HomePod.
A few months later, Apple highlighted some of the apps that take advantage of the new feature, including Amazon Music and Pandora, with Spotify removed from the list.
It is not known if the streaming platform chose not to be part of the initial batch of third-party music providers with HomePod support or if the reason had to do with Apple.
However, the feature request was posted on the Spotify community forum a few weeks later, with the service asking to add support for HomePod.
The streaming service said in June of 2020 that it plans to implement AirPlay 2 support in its iOS app.
While AirPlay 2 support allows users to stream Spotify content through HomePod. But this is not native support for the HomePod.
Native HomePod support allows users to use Siri to play streaming service content from HomePod without opening the app and manually selecting the speaker.
Users are preparing to turn their frustrations into action, with many saying they have activated their three-month trial of Apple Music and may renew their subscription unless Spotify provides HomePod support before the trial period ends.
And the streaming platform doesn’t seem to care about its users. The idea was classified as a working idea. But no updates were made about it. The reason why it refused to support HomePod is still unknown.
And the HomePod has grown slowly thanks to the smaller $99 HomePod mini that was recently launched in new colors.
Apple is offering new customers a three-month free trial of Apple Music, which includes native support for the HomePod.
